There is simply nothing like a visit to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to put the Civil War into complete perspective. It is a truly powerful place. The site of a Union victory that would change the course of the war for the Union, Gettysburg is arguably one of the most well-interpreted historic sites I have ever visited. Hundreds of monuments commemorate key moments in the battle, or critical figures to the outcome. Even if you are not a history buff, this site is worth the visit. Bring your walking shoes…hiking the Union and Confederate lines, as well as hiking into downtown Gettysburg will add about 20 miles to your odometer.
